My morning sickness is still bad. I'm not sure if it's caused by the events of the past weeks or my darn hormones just refuse to settle down. I've finally learned to accept it and just go with the flow. The biggest advice I can give anyone is to ignore the exhaustion until you are no longer able to. Stare pain and discomfort fiercely in the eye.
If you give in to the exhaustion, you'll become a vegetable. Sometimes I feel that the more I rest, the more nauseous I get. It's funny how an 8-year old can put things into perspective. Jason, my nephew came up to me one day and asked me, "Auntie Lai-Lai, why are you always sleeping?" He's right. That's no way spend your day. teehee. Work is actually the best

place for me until about 3PM when I'm ready to hit the sack.
On the positive side regarding my morning sickness, yesterday was the first day I got up without a major headache or a need to vomit. That's gotta be good! I was told the morning sickness will be there up to the end of the fourth month. So, only 4 weeks to go -
woohoo!
This week, I had my second visit with the ob/gyn. I heard my baby's heartbeat. If I wasn't laying down on a cold hospital table, I swear, I would have cried. Blame it on the hormones again! What a relief! An actual proof that there's something growing inside me. All of the sudden, the morning sickness is all worth it. How a 3-inch baby can have a heartbeat is a mind-boggling to me. Exactly how small is the heart if the baby's overall length is 3 inches? ... and yet it's already beating.
Here's an old wives' tale I never heard of until I got out of the hospital: if the baby's heartbeat is over 160, it's most likely a girl. Anyone heard this before? If so, is there any truth to this?
I've lost 8 lbs. The doctor said I need to gain some more weight. Wow! Her voice almost echoed in my ears. I thought I heard angels flapping their wings behind me. "Eat some more!" I loved it!
Anyway, I'm adding Rocky Road ice cream to my list of things I can eat daily -- please don't email me about gestational diabetes. I still can't eat much so just give this one to me :-)
I've been scolded about skipping my lab tests during the past three weeks. I told the doctor I've been busy but apparently she doesn't accept excuses :-(
Almost all the organs and structures of the fetus are formed. The fingers and toes are no longer webbed -- they've separated! The genitals will start to form. I guess we'll find out soon enough if it's a boy or a girl. <<
